Getting Started with Your Ledger Device
Follow these essential steps to initialize your device and secure your assets.
Unbox Your Device
Ensure the box is sealed and contains the device, a USB cable, and recovery sheets. Check that the device has not been tampered with. Ledger devices do not come with any pre-set PIN codes or recovery phrases.
Download Ledger Live
Go to ledger.com/start to download the official Ledger Live application for your desktop or mobile device. This app is the interface you will use to manage your accounts and update your device.
Initialize Your Device
Connect your Ledger to your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to navigate. Select "Set up as new device" if this is your first time.
Set Up Your PIN Code
Choose a PIN code between 4 and 8 digits. This code unlocks your device physically. You will need to enter it every time you power on the device.
Write Down Recovery Phrase
CRITICAL: Your device will display a 24-word recovery phrase. Write these words down exactly as they appear on the provided recovery sheets. This is the ONLY way to recover your funds if you lose your device.
Verify Recovery Phrase
The device will ask you to confirm the words you just wrote down. This ensures you have copied them correctly. Never take a photo of your recovery phrase or store it digitally.
Install Apps
Open Ledger Live and go to the "My Ledger" tab. Install the apps for the cryptocurrencies you wish to manage (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
